Encompassed within the Jasper National Park in the heart of the Athabasca Valley confluence is the Town of Jasper. In order to keep housing in Jasper affordable for people who need to work and live there full time, you must be an "eligible resident" as defined by Parks Canada. This regulation is designed to prevent people from buying vacation property in the park that will sit vacant most of the time, or from retiring in the town without contributing to the local work economy. Jasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is especially renowned for its scenery and stands as one of North America's largest protected natural areas: Jasper's defining feature is the towering mountain peaks that surround it. Residents of Jasper help themselves to the natural wonders of the area: from discovering wildlife in your backyard to hiking up the side of the Rockies, Jasper holds a world of adventure for residents and visitors alike.

The area has a rich variety of recreational options no matter the time of year. In winter you can ski at Canada's highest base elevation ski hill, Marmot Basin, or visit the spectacular ice waterfall at Maligne Canyon. Throw on your skates for an evening of skating at Jasper Park Lodge, or grab a friend and go cross-country skiing on one of the many trails in the area, then stop by a family-owned cafe for a cup of hot chocolate to warm up.

In the spring and summer the area comes alive with wildlife and flora: take a ride through the icefields parkway and visit the Columbia Icefields, or spend hours hiking through the rockies. Other warm-weather activities include: golfing, fishing, rafting, horseback riding, cycling, and boating.
